1978-79 Wayne Gretzky Game Used WHA Northland Rookie Stick

1978-79 Wayne Gretzky Game Used WHA Northland Rookie Stick

A wooden witness to the earliest days of the Great One’s career. Wayne Gretzky first saw action in the final season of the World Hockey Association, initially with the Racers of Indianapolis and later with the Oilers in Edmonton. Although he tested a few makes during his first pro season, he was photographed most wielding his trusty Northland gamer. Northland Registered Pattern “7055” with soiled white over black knob taping and a bare blade. Wayne’s “99” is marked high up on the shaft and both sides are stamped “Gretzky”. Great game use! This rare example from Wayne’s rookie season comes from the well-known collection of his first agent, Gus Badali and is penned “to Gus, best of luck, Wayne Gretzky” in a signing style yet to be perfected. A historic stick, destined to be the showpiece of a fine collection.
