Those Brits probably got a good chuckle out of it back in the summer of '76, but who's laughing now? Amazing periodical, The Gentleman's Magazine For August 1776, represented the first opportunity for the people of England to read Thomas Jefferson's masterpiece. It is listed on the cover page as "The Declaration of American Independency" and reprinted in its entirety on the page noted. Minor separation of the binding only affects the last several pages and does not touch those holding the Declaration. Aside from this, the piece is undamaged by tearing or staining in any way. Truly remarkable. If this were an American printing it would be valued at fifty to one hundred thousand dollars. This immensely important piece can be had for a fraction of that price.
