The Watts Riots occurred in Los Angeles in August of 1965. They were part of a national uprising of inner city African Americans that occurred in the mid to late 1960's leading to new civil rights legislation. As a result of the riots, 34 people were officially reported killed, 1,032 people were injured, and 4,000 people were arrested.
