Lot 329: Rare Between the Acts Sports Tobacco Cards (9)
This lot represents 2/3's of this rare set. There are eight different cards and one duplicate. The key to the lot is the card of the Pedestrian Hart, the first African-American athlete to be pictured on an American Tobacco card (we sold this card alone for over $1000 in a previous auction, the only other time that we have seen it appear at public auction). Also included in this lot are Pedestrian Panghott, Guyon, Brown (2), Weston, Merritt, and Hazael. Finally there is a card of the famous Oarsman Hanlan. All except for one of the Brown cards shows evidence of having been removed from a scrapbook due to some minor brown toning, however there is none of the dreaded paper loss. The fronts of the cards, while technically grading Good to VG have a much better appearance as there are no major creases or tears. This lot represents a rare opportunity to acquire a large grouping of these very scarce cards.
