Lot 468: James Whale (1929): Director of Frankenstein
Stunning publicity still shows him in 1929 before he made his classic Universal horror films Frankenstein, Invisible Man and the peak of the genre, The Bride of Frankenstein. This is when he hadn’t directed anything in Hollywood fare, the vintage pencil notation on versos states "James Whale new director for Tiffany-Stahl films". Corner chip o/w VG-EX. 8x10". His end was as tragic as the Frankenstein monster, detailed in the film Gods and Monsters.
