A wintry, icy blue and white depiction of Whiteface Mountain of the Adirondacks, in Lake Placid, NY, in 1978, the Winter Olympics were merely two years away from being officially represented by this beautiful poster. Its Olympic rings and familiar type, “Lake Placid 1980,” recall, among countless of the great achievements (including Eric Heiden’s record-breaking 5 speed-skating gold medals), the Miracle on Ice’s U.S. Hockey team defeating the Soviets and the Finns to win the Gold, in one of the few, truly nationalistic experiences which bonded all Americans. This watercolor poster by local artist John Gallucci brings us back to that time, with his evocative portrayal of the mountainous region which played host to these memorable Olympics. Gallucci signs, in pencil, this limited edition, “No. 74/1000, March 1978”, measuring 24 x 36 ½”, and with only a few minor blemishes at the bottom - a stain, a crease, some small dirt spots, it’s ready for framing.
