Spending only his fourth season in the Major Leagues, outfielder So Taguchi, from Japan, overcame a stomach illness late in the 2005 season to help his St. Louis Cardinals earn some play in the post-season. In the National League Championship, he played in every game and in all outfield positions at least once, yet ultimately could not hold back the Houston Astros from winning a place into the World Series.
