"Hold 'em boys, I'll think of something." That was Charles "Chuck" Dressen's motto in compiling a 1037-993 managerial record over 16 years. The sawed-off, gregarious, pony-betting Dressen couldn't think of something, though, when after leading the Brooklyn Dodgers to pennants in '52 and '53, demanded a multi-year contract and was refused by Walter O'Malley. Dressen walked, never again to win, in stints in D.C., Milwaukee and Detroit. He died in 1966. This extremely rare single bears his signature penned on a side panel in blue ink. The ink has faded a bit but still rates a pleasing 7/10. ONL (Giles) ball is NRMT with a subtle hint of toning.
