Lot 528: Two 1939 New York World's Fair Posters
ITEM DESCRIPTION

Perhaps the best-known of the many '39 NYWF posters is the highly collectible Atherton work. We have been fortunate to find a full-sized copy of this art-deco landmark. Like all commissioned artwork of that Fair, it centers around the Fair's Trylon and Perisphere symbol. Atherton has the goddess Diana behind a split-open globe from which the symbol emerges. Brown background with "New York World's Fair" in yellow and "1939" in blue. Another sought-after poster is by Binder, which uses the symbols amid criss-crossing arc lights against a dark blue backdrop, red ship on the right and a bluen and yellow section of skyline on the left. 20x30" posters were printed by Grinnell Litho. NRMT and mounted on heavy coated stock and exhibition quality.
