ITEM DESCRIPTION

||||||||||||
This vintage carte-de-visite dates back to approximately 1864. This sharp CDV measures approximately 2 1/2” X 4” and says, “Baseball Illustrated” across the top. Humorous scenes showing alternate meanings of baseball terms such as “home run”, “fly catch” and “short stop” adorn one side. The other side is printed with, “T.E. Sexton, Photographer”, 315 Market Street, Wilmington, DEL.” The name, “Capt. John S. Loud, 12th N.Y. Cav.” is written in pencil at the top. Loud was the captain of Company M of the 12th New York Cavalry from 1863-1865. The illustrations are all clear and easy to read. There is very slight rounding on two corners, otherwise NRMT.
