The pinnacle of basball card collecting has always been the T206 Honus Wagner card. Long before there was grading and set registries this was always the crown jewel of any collection. Even the idea that a person once owned one of these fabled relics set him or her into an elite group. The legend of why Honus Wagner was short-printed in the first series of T206 is that he didn't want children to buy tobacco to get his picture. While it flies in today's world that Wagner was anti-tobacco, that theory has been discredited. Wagner, in fact, endorsed several cigar products and is pictured with a mouth full of chewing tobacco on his 1948 Leaf card. The short print is probably due to Wagner wanting to be paid for the use of his image. This example has been graded PSA 2 and has all the visual characteristics associated with a higher grade. This is one of only 36 copies graded by PSA and one of about 50- 75 known to exist. The image of Wagner was painted from a Carl Horner photo and has a somewhat regal presence when situated among other cards from the same set. The offered example has a rich, warm, orange background that contrasts the image of Wagner perfectly. There is some light creasing and rounded corners that account for the grade. An elite item that can certainly set a collection apart from the rest of the pack, so to speak.
