Lot 375: Babe Ruth and Joe DiMaggio Signed Baseball
Here's a highly intriguing combo baseball that showcases Babe Ruth's signature on the sweet spot in blue fountain ink and rating 6.5/10, as well as the autograph of fellow icon Joe DiMaggio on a side panel in blue fountain ink rating 7/10. It's an Official League Ball by the Watco Company and features a light protective coating. There's also a gash on the labeling. Judging by the DiMaggio signature, this was signed circa 1940. Though Ruth and DiMaggio never played together, they remain Yankees royalty, as well as first-ballot Hall of Famers. The larger-than-life Ruth held the home run title for roughly half a century and is still considered by many as the greatest player to ever set foot on the diamond, establishing similar career records for RBI and slugging percentage. DiMaggio's personality was diametrically opposed to that of Ruth's as "Joltin' Joe's" success almost seemed to interfere with his personal life. Still, he compiled a .325 lifetime batting average and authored the world-famous 56-game hitting streak that has remained the gold standard. This is a ball touched by greatness in every sense of the word!
