Lot 629: 1934 Tigers Composite Photo with Signed Baseball & Front Page News
ITEM DESCRIPTION
Three items make up this lot, a tribute to the 1934 Detroit Tigers squad that captured the American League pennant with a 101-win season. It includes an official American League (Harridge) baseball with approximately 23 signatures, although most are faded and a handful are still clearly legible. Also included are two framed items - one is a 19x24" composite of head shot photographs of all members of the 1934 team, the other is a 17x26" reproduction of the front page of the Detroit Free Press, dated Sunday, September 9, 1934. While it focuses on the Tigers' lead in the division having been trimmed, just below the banner headline is a picture of Hank Greenberg, above which reads "Rosh Hashana," followed by Hebrew letters and a wish of a Happy Jewish New Year to the star slugger.
