Lot 93: Floyd Patterson Chamionship Fight Gloves - Johansson Match
On June 20, 1960 at the Polo Grounds in New York, Heavyweight Champion Ingemar Johansson defended his title against the man he took it from the year before, Floyd Patterson. Patterson landed an incredible left hook in the 5th round and knocked Johansson out to become the first man in boxing history to regain the heavyweight championship. Offered here are the historic gloves used by Patterson in this fight. These original gloves include part of the original laces. They are burgundy color leather with an Everlast label at each wrist. Each is marked on the backhand in gold lettering, "Regained Heavyweight Championship PATTERSON KO'd JOHANSSON 5th ROUND-JUNE 20th 1960." Each is stamped 2106 on palm. Each has a N.Y. State Athletic Commission stamp inside. Some surface leather removed from tape being taken off. What history offered here!
