This is a beautiful tobacco-sponsored championship cloth for John L. Sullivan which has the logo for Cochrane's Turkey Red in the lower left corner. Sullivan is pictured in full fight pose and has his important fights to date listed around the perimeter including Elliot, Wilson, Slade, Mitchell and his championship victory over Paddy Ryan. Dated August 6, 1883 at the bottom. Color remains bold as does the print, has some soiling and minor staining but not torn. Has been matted, measures 21.5x 23.5." One of the better Sullivan display pieces we have seen from early in his career.
