Lot 811: 1941 Franklin D. Roosevelt Signed Presidential Pardon

Presidential pardons generally tend to be rare, though during his tenure Franklin D. Roosevelt granted the most, over 3,600. This lot contains various elements of a pardon issued to a man named Samuel Barron, who had pled guilty to embezzlement of property of a bankrupt estate. Based on the information contained on the certificate, dated January 8, 1941, Barron had served his sentence and was granted the "full and unconditional pardon for the purpose of restoring his civil rights." Included is the pardon signed by Roosevelt, a photocopy of a certificate stating such, and a letter from the Department of Justice. The signature grades 8/10 while the documents have mailing folds and are in Very Good condition.
