Lot 1034: Communist Russian John Lennon "Banned" Records
Not that Lenin, this Lennon - In 1980-81, during the Communist regime in Soviet Russia, Western rock 'n roll was still forbidden, so kids had to listen to acts like John Lennon on cardboard 45s with photos that had nothing to do with music at all. These are two such 'picture discs': for Lennon's "(Just Like) Starting Over" and "Woman," the two big hits from his last studio album, released just a week before he was killed in December 1980. Maybe he should have called it "Banned in the U.S.S.R."
