Times Square, 1942, before the lights went out on Broadway! This wire photo was taken from the top of what was then called the RCA building - better known as "30 Rock" - on April 30, 1942. According to the attached release, a test blackout would darken the city later that night. Note the ad on the side of one building for the Astor movie theatre showing "Gone With the Wind."
