While it is common knowledge that James Naismith invented the game of basketball in 1891 using a soccer ball and two peach baskets, not many know about the YMCA's role in the development of the game. Naismith invented the game at the YMCA School for Training in Springfield, Massachusetts, and the YMCA played a major role in spreading the game globally.
