ITEM DESCRIPTION

The next best thing to a World Series ring is another piece of jewelry. After their stunning upset of the Baltimore Orioles in the 1969 Fall Classic, the New York Mets issued these rare medallions to their employees. The gold bauble is barely an inch long and barrell-shaped with a banner across the front reading "World Champions." In the upper left corner is the Mets logo and the lower right features a diamond-studded baseball with the year 1969 written above it. On the reverse side, the banner reads: "To: Helen; From: Bill Shea," the namesake of the ballpark. The upper-left shows a beaming sun with "National League Champions" and the scores of the first-ever NLCS (vs. Atlanta) listed. A Mets cap and home plate highlight the lower-right.
