Lot 1: 1959 Harmon Killebrew Washington Senators Game Worn Jersey-Photmatched
Here's a rare treasure: one of only three known Harmon Killebrew Senators jerseys in existence, and this is the only one that is photomatched! 100% original. The home pinstripe jersey has "Senators" in script across the front and original Talon zipper in working order. On the back is number "3" with a team repair at the bottom of the number but it is all original. Note the very rare original Senators mascot patch on the left sleeve. "Killebrew" is visible on a swatch in the collar, and there is Wilson size 44 and "1959" tagging on the front tail. Shows beautiful use. There is some marker writing inside the front tail that is very faded. Comes with a 1959 photo of Killebrew wearing this exact jersey, two years before the franchise moved to the Twin Cities. "Hammerin' Harmon" was an elite power hitter, crushing 573 dingers, including at least 40 for an astounding eight consecutive seasons during an era when such power feats were very rare indeed. But Killebrew's home run prowess was only part of his legend. The length of his blasts were almost mythical, as he has been credited with some of the most majestic tape-measure shots ever recorded, including a 520-foot bomb at Minnesota's old Metropolitan Stadium and a rooftop shot at Tiger Stadium. Despite his ferocious swing, Killebrew was a kind and gentle man, and his name is forever immortalized in Cooperstown.
