This super rare jersey is the first Monte Irvin jersey we have seen, and there is a story behind it. Hall of Famer Irvin played for the New York Giants from 1949 until 1955, wearing number 20. In 1951, Irvin wore this jersey as he led the National League in RBIs. The gray flannel button-front wool jersey has orange and black trim around the collar and sleeves, and Irvin's number 20 on the back in black-on-orange felt. There is a MacGregor GoldSmith size 44 label in the collar, above a swatch with "Irvin 20" chainstitched in red. Inside the right button placket seam is a "Set 1 1951" flag tag. Across the front, though, appears MINNEAPOLIS in black-on-orange felt. The Minneapolis Millers of the American Association were a Giants minor league affiliate, and this jersey was sent there at some point to be used by the Millers. Irvin actually played for the Millers in 1955, and this jersey was given to him to take home after the season. The National League patch on the sleeve was also removed from this Irvin jersey when it went to Minneapolis. There is a small hole in the front right below the letters, and below that a few small spots near the buttons. This is a great jersey; all original with the exception of the lettering on the front.
