Shibe Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania opened in April, 1909 and served as the home of the Philadelphia Athletics and Philadelphia Phillies (for a number of years as co-tenants) until it was permanently closed in October, 1970 and finally razed in 1976. Along the way, the park's name was changed to Connie Mack Stadium in 1953. This is an original marble cornerstone from the stadium named Shibe Park. Measuring approximately 8" at its base and 10" in height, the ornate stone is engraved "S P 1909" in gold leaf. It has undergone some restoration, and a slight repair line is still visible across the stone and through the letter "P." This memento of a venerable stadium of the past will certainly make for an interesting display piece.
