Lot 975: Rare 1902 International Lawn Tennis Championship (Davis Cup) Program
ITEM DESCRIPTION

||||||||||
This super-rare item is one of only two known to exist - a program from the second edition of what is now known as the Davis Cup, held in August, 1902. The cover features a photograph of the Davis Challenge Trophy and notes that the competition was held at the Crescent Athletic Club in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. The United States ultimately defeated Great Britain 3-2 to retain the trophy won in the inaugural competition of 1900 (the competition was not held in 1901). The program has 16 pages, including the covers, and measures 5 1/8 x 6 3/4". There is a stain in the upper right corner of the cover and some toning on the right side; a ding on the lower right corner affects the first few pages. The lower right corner is stained throughout the booklet, and the last few pages are missing a small chip in the lower corner. There are no loose pages and there is no writing in the program. An unusual collectible and a must for the tennis aficionado.
