Lot 1085: 1920 Antwerp Olympics Gold Winner's Medal

Gilt silver prize medal awarded to first place winners in theses historic games. Classic design by Josue Dupon shows the victorious athlete holding laurel wreath on one side and the Brabo fountain and Port of Antwerp. A stunning 60mm in diameter it is a weighty 85 grams. A true rarity. Of the 400 athletes that were presented these, less than ten are known. Usually the gilt is well worn; this one is beautiful. Has a couple of tiny edge dents, o/w NRMT. With no edge inscription, the athlete this was awarded to is unknown.
