Lot 951: 1948 Boston Braves Night Game Worn Jersey

Along with the Brooklyn Dodgers, the Braves toyed with the concept of shiny satin uniforms to be worn under the lights, but quickly abandoned the idea when it became apparent that the delicate nature of the fabric would prove problematic in hard-fought diamond wars. The effect must have been awe-inspiring though-even under the dull glow of fluorescent lights here in the Leland's offices it seems to shine from within. This particular specimen was worn by rookie moundsman Vern Bickford, who also gleamed under the lights his first season with an eleven and five record. His name is sewn in the collar below the "Horace Partridge Athletic Goods [size] 44" tagging. "Braves" with tomahawk sweeps chest, with number "24" on back. As to condition, you will find none finer. Typically, on the rare occasions you encounter a satin jersey, it has more holes than a fishing net. Not a single one to be found here though, nor any significant staining. And remember, this was a pennant-winning year for the Braves, so it's even that much brighter.
