Lot 258: 1936 Ben Chapman All Star Game Presentational Charm
ITEM DESCRIPTION
Though Ben Chapman had been traded to the Senators just a month before the '36 All-Star Game to free up CF for a rookie named DiMaggio, the fiery Chapman played the position in the Game, a 4-3 NL win at Braves Field (Joe D. played RF). Chapman -- who for trivia freaks was the 1st man to bat in an All-Star Game, in '33 -- was presented with this shimmering All-Star Game charm as were all the AL players. The rare and precious 1/2" in diameter, solid gold charmlet is engraved "All Star Game-American League-Boston-1936" between baseball-style "seams." Charmlet was added to a bracelet with 2 crosses and a heart by Mrs. Chapman, but can be removed. Charm is NRMT and came from the Chapman family.
