Lot 774: 1910's Harry Hooper Game Worn Spikes
ITEM DESCRIPTION

Want to get a good look at these spikes, but you can't make it out to the Leland's offices? Well, go to Cooperstown instead then. There's an identical pair in the Hall of Fame. These were originally obtained from the from the Paul Hill Collection; Hill got them directly from Hooper. Use is very strong-back in those days the equipment had to last much longer than a single season-and the left shoe still has the original laces. Amazingly, there even remains a few crusted spots of ancient infield dirt, perhaps from the same field where the veteran outfielder welcomed a rookie pitcher named Ruth. One can only wonder in awe at the numerous brushes with greatness these black leather beauties have had.
