Lot 829: 1850's Handmade Cloth Baseball

These were common all over rural America is the years surrounding the Civil War, but only a handful have survived to this date. This specimen was stitched from white and blue striped cloth with a center of yarn coiled around something hard (wood? rock?). Day One in the evolution of baseball.
