Lot 472: Joe Louis vs. Joe Walcott Fight Pictures Poster
This offering is a vintage 1948 Poster of "All the Highlights, Round by Round, Blow by Blow", boasts this wonderful three-color poster from Fight Pictures. The two fighters squared off against one another in 1947 where even though Jersey Joe scored two knockdowns, Louis won in a well disputed match. This fight in 1948 was set up to settle that score and even after being sent to the canvas twice in their first meeting the "Brown Bomber" was able to silence all critics with a convincing 11th round knockout of Jersey Joe. This poster is in VG+ condition with some fairly significant fold lines but with no separation. There are 3 small holes, two of which are located on the central fold line and are each 1/2" or less in diameter, and another even smaller one on the right hand corner. The color quality and illustration is EX with a vibrant red color and bold black lines, almost reminiscent of a wood block print. In the days before television, it was these movies that allowed the public to view such incredible Title Championships and these posters helped bring them to life then and afford us a unique insight into the world of mid 20th century boxing now.
