You'd be hard pressed to find anyone in this country who does not know who Babe Ruth is. The legendary Babe Ruth has played one of the most pivotal roles in baseball history, and is considered by many as the greatest baseball player of all time. New Yorkers love him as the powerhouse hitter who helped them win four World Series Championships during his tenure. Boston fans scorned the “Bambino” or “Sultan of Swat” as he was commonly referred to as, and blamed him for a curse that would last 86 years after he left the Red Sox in 1919 to play for their arch nemesis, the New York Yankees. Ruth broke all previous records with a career 714 Home runs, a record that would stand until 1961 when Roger Maris surpassed that number, runs batted in at 2,217 and an overall career batting average of .342. Beyond his unprecedented statistics, Ruth completely changed baseball itself. The popularity of the game exploded in the 1920s, largely due to the Bambino himself. Ruth ushered in the "live-ball" era as his big swing led to gargantuan home run totals that not only excited fans, but helped baseball evolve from a low-scoring, speed-dominated game to a high-scoring power game. This game used bat which measures 35" in length and weighs 36.7 ounces matches the H&B factory records for bats ordered in 1929/30 by the Bambino. The bat displays outstanding use with a slight handle crack that has been repaired. The bat also displays three distinct Ruth characteristics, handle and barrel scoring and a contact area above his branded name on the barrel. Several fully documented Ruth game used bats, including a bat on display at the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY, possess handle and barrel scoring.  Additionally Ruth’s label down grip, resulting in a contact area above his name, has been documented in numerous photographs of Ruth at the plate. This bat comes with a detailed letter explaining its origin. Apparently the letter writer's grandfather had a good friend who was part of the Yankee Clubhouse and after hitting three home runs with this particular bat, Ruth cracked it and gave the bat to this person who in turn gave it to his grandfather. This bat is part of an incredible history of a ball player famous both on the field and off for his colorful and charismatic personality which helped shaped the face of modern baseball. Bat has 2 LOA's and is graded GU 8.5
