ITEM DESCRIPTION

The description has been updated to note new provenance
Our consignor told use that he originally purchased this hat from Christies Auction House in the 1990's. When doing the research we originally thought that it was the hat offered by Christies in their 1998 auction, however further research has shown that this was the hat offered in the October 1995 auction. Even though the provenance has changed, it does not change the fact that this is indeed an authentic Lou Gehrig game worn hat.
Extremely rare style features the circa 1939 hard brim with small “NY” logo on the front. The cap shows heavy use but is in exceptional condition with the small button missing on top its only defect. The piece is still open to photographic research and could have been worn during his 1939 Yankee Stadium “Lou Gehrig Day” farewell, and was undoubtedly used during his amazing 2,130 game streak. Cap is a size 7 1/8” A.G. Spalding & Bros. Made in U.S.A. The original leather band is elegantly embroidered “7 1/8 L. Gehrig”.
