Robert G. Orr is perhaps the most revered of all Boston sports heroes. Truly one of the all time greats ever to play the game of Hockey, Orr's career was cut short by a knee injury. This untimely injury for Orr is actually part of the provenance of this piece of hockey folklore. The stick is a Victoriaville Bobby Orr model Made in Canada. All-original tape on the top of the shaft, adorned with two vintage Orr signatures; one "To Tara Best Wishes Bobby Orr" rating an 8-9 out of 10, the other simply "Bobby Orr" rating a 6. "3/11/76 Boston Garden" has also been written in black marker on the shaft by the consignor. This stick was obtained in the spring of 1976 after Orr had been injured most of the season and was involved in contentious and acrimonious contract negotiations with the Bruins who did not believe Orr would ever be the same player again and were looking for a way out of his contract. Orr disagreed and was at the Garden March 11 for a workout session with the team to determine if he would be able to suit up for the upcoming playoffs. After this workout it was evident that Orr would not be able to play in the near term. Before heading into the locker room, Orr, holding this hockey stick, stopped to speak with this lot's consignor, a well known Boston TV reporter who asked Orr if he could have his stick and if he would sign it. Orr obliged. As history would have it, that would be the last time Orr stepped on the ice as a player for the Bruins thus rendering this the last stick he used as a Bruin, and a true holy grail of the sport of Lord Stanley lore.
