Legendary NHL President Frank Calder gave his name in 1936 to a NHL trophy to be awarded annually to the season¹s outstanding Rookie. After Calder¹s death in 1943, the trophy was redesigned and renamed "The Frank Calder Memorial Trophy". The earlier version of this trophy is one of the toughest individual awards to obtain. This trophy, in the classic loving cup style, stands 14 inches including the black wood base. Engraved in silver-plate is "National Hockey League, Frank Calder Trophy, awarded to the outstanding recruit in each season, won by Grant Warwick, New York Rangers". With a record of 33 points in 1941-42, 21-year-old Rangers rookie Grant Warwick beat out Buddy O¹Connor of the Habs for the award. The trophy has tarnished somewhat over the years, still in overall excellent condition. Obtained directly from the Warwick Family with a detailed Letter of Provenance. This is the first example to surface in the hobby and probably the only original Calder Trophy ever offered.
