ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $200.00
Winning Bid:
Auction Date:5/31/2008 9:00 PM EST

This is a great collection of vintage boxing photographs. The first captures the fight between the infamous African American Boxer Jack Johnson and middleweight champion Stanley Ketchel. The photograph measures 21 1/2 x 27 1/2" and captures the moment Johnson KO Ketchel in a bout between the two that took place in 1909. The condition of the image is EX with nice tonal qualities and remarkably good paper quality. The image is a bit grainy due to the large size of the print but it is a phenomenal image for a picture this vintage. The photo is framed to an overall size of 24 1/2 x 30 1/2". The next image captures the fight between Joe Louis and Max Baer that took place in 1935. The image captures a rare moment in boxing history when Louis brought Baer to his knees, a first in the famed pugilist's career. The sepia tone image is focused on the kneeling Baer and the quality is EX with a minor 1/3" tear in the top left corner. The print measures 19 1/2 x 25 1/2" and is framed to an overall size of 21 1/2" x 27 1/2." The last image in the lot is a print that captures lightweight World Champion Mike McTigue, who held the title from 1923-1925 and challenger Tony Laughlin. The print measures 19 1/2 x 25 1/2" and is in overall EX condition. Framed to an overall size of 21 1/2 x 27 1/2." This is truly an outstanding grouping of high quality vintage oversized boxing photographs.
