ITEM DESCRIPTION

This pencil box dates from just about the time James Naismith invented the game of basketball as an indoor winter sport to keep his phys-ed students in shape, possibly the first pencil box to feature Basketball. The wooden box is covered with a beautiful illustration of the game. There is some damage to the paper, a tear along the bottom left side and a dark spot over the central image of a player. The color quality is good and what a unique treasure from the earliest days of the game.
