Sara Bernhardt as Cleopatra, “the most famous actress in the history of the world”, is featured on this cabinet card photo by the famous French Canadian photographer Napoleon Sarony. It measures 4 ¼” x 6” and is in EX plus condition with only a small chip along the bottom. Sarony, the preeminent photographer of his day, once paid Bernhardt $1500 (in the late 1800’s) to photograph her with the agreement that he would retain the rights to the image, which as it turns out was quite lucrative for him, and for her as well as these “publicity” photos gained in circulation and popularity.
