On April 27, 1947 the Yankees held a grand celebration in support of the man often referred to as the "Colossus of Swat" and perhaps the ball club's most revered and famous player, George Herman "Babe" Ruth. The celebration took place following his initial cancer diagnosis and though his health was failing, he was able to attend the event, that had a turn out of more than 60,00 loyal fans.
