John Madden's name has been synonymous with the NFL for decades. Here is a fine collection of (31) news photos dating from 1969 and his appointment as head coach of the Oakland Raiders to the early 1990's in his role as a CBS broadcaster. Madden's passion for the game is evident in the early shots which include many great sideline images from San Francisco Examiner staff photographers.
