Lot 1660: 1930's Joe Louis & Max Schmeling Boxing Puppets with Boxes (2)
ITEM DESCRIPTION
Fascinating pair of boxing puppets from the 1930's in their original boxes. The boxers represent Joe Louis and Max Schmeling although not specifically stated on the packaging. Each puppet has a soft vinyl head, "handkerchief" body and small boxing gloves that fit on the wearers thumb and index fingers. The Joe Louis "Brown Bopper" puppet shows a bit of dust, dirt and paint wear on the top of its head, but is overall VG. The Max Schmeling "Tiger Kid" puppet is in similar condition (VG) but with less paint wear on the head. "Tiger Kid" box is missing plastic front, has some tears to the front panel and has minor crushing of the corners. The lid of the Brown Bopper box is nearly torn off and has been repaired with tape. The front plastic is torn as is the front panel on the left side. Bottom is somewhat crushed and there is overall edge wear. Both puppets come with metal stands. Fun vintage boxing toys manufactured by the Jay V Zimmerman Company of St. Louis.
