A fantastic sophomore season by Kevin Dineen propelled the Whalers to the 1986 Stanley Cup Playoffs, their first playoff appearance in five years. Dineen helped Hartford improve 15 points in the standings and put up his highest points-per-game average while with the Whalers notching 1.19 points-per-game. Although the Whalers lost in a seventh game overtime thriller to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Montreal Canadiens, Dineen’s road, green mesh CCM jersey from 1985-86 shows his determination. CCM tagging in the collar with “11” penned on the manufacturer tag. CCM tag is sewn on top of the “85 10” date tag below. This jersey is hammered with use everywhere. The crest is covered in stick marks and stains. A z-shaped repair is sewing up the mesh to the right of the crest. Two team repairs are under the logo. More stick marks and stains are present on the lower hem stripes. Board burns and blue paint transfer show Dineen’s run-ins with the dashers. Two more sizable team repairs fix up the left sleeve cuff area with red, blue, and white paint transfers elsewhere on the left sleeve. Both sleeves have stick marks running through the numbers. Two additional repairs appear on the back right cuff and elbow area with large un-repaired holes at the elbow and more paint transfers. The back has more red paint, especially on the first #1 with blue paint on the second #1. Nice pilling is present inside along with a second custom fight strap sewn to the right of the original. Killer Whale!
