Lot 573: Mid-1970's Al Hamilton Edmonton Oilers WHA Game Worn Jersey

ITEM DESCRIPTION

Reserve: $300.00
Winning Bid: $1,139.24
Price Realized: $1,361.39
Auction Date:11/30/2007 9:00 PM EST

Al Hamilton jumped shipped from the NHL to the rival World Hockey Association for the 1972-73 season, joining the Alberta Oilers, who would become the Edmonton Oilers by the second year. Perhaps the shining moment of Hamilton's pro career came in 1974 when he appeared in three games for Canada in the 1974 Summit Series against the Soviet Union. He played eight years in Edmonton, finishing his career back in the NHL in 1979-80 with the Oilers. This all original Oilers jersey from the middle portion of that run with Edmonton is a fine tribute to Hamilton. His alternate captain’s ‘A’ sits boldly on the left chest which is heat pressed on to a piece of material and then sewn to the jersey. Rawlings size 46 and Steichens tags in the collar. Light stick marks on the front with a small material run above the crest. Two un-repaired holes below the crest on the front. Light stick marks, scrapes, and scuffing on both sleeves and evident on the crest. Back of the right sleeve has a couple of board burns. External pilling on the underside of the right sleeve cuff area. Nameplate appears to have been replaced. Single loop style fight strap inside the back.
