Very nice hard-bound collection of 26 issue's of Porter's Spirit of the Times sports weekly from September 6, 1856 to February 28, 1857. "A Chronicle of the Turf, Field Sports, Literature and the Stage." Porter's had the leisure time activities of 19th century Americans covered. It contains original fiction and articles on rowing, chess, draughts, hunting, cricket, swimming, horse racing, "military intelligence", boxing and much more. Beautiful engravings throughout including a hand colored print of harness race horse Flora Temple. The boards and spine are in excellent condition. The inner pages are in very good condition with only minimal edge wear and/or tearing and the edge of the pages are beautiful marbeled. Amazing book!
