Incredible hard-bound collection of Porter's Spirit of the Times weekly issues from June 18, 1859 to September 24, 1859 and Wilkes' Spirit of the Times sports weekly magazine issues from September 10, 1859 to March 2, 1861. It shows one overlap issue (September 10, 1859) before the two magazines eventually merged. The court case between Porter's and Wilkes' is detailed in the 9/17/1859 issue of Wilkes'. Extensive coverage of rowing, chess, draughts, cricket, swimming, horse racing, cock fighting, boxing and much more. This edition is in amazing condition. The boards have some minor bumping and paper loss at the corners, but the spine is perfect. The inner pages are in equally good condition. Some have overall spotting, but there is minimal edge wear and/or tearing. Wonderful book!
