Lot 271: Bobby Thomson Baseball Photographs (36)
ITEM DESCRIPTION
|
||||||||||||
In 1951, Bobby Thomson's bat hit the "Shot Heard Round the World" off
a pitch by Ralph Branca propelling the NY Giants to a dramatic come-
from-behind pennant victory over the Dodgers. The all-star
outfielder is the subject of this (36) piece wire photo lot. The
earliest images are from late in 1951, showing Thomson with a young
polio victim. Nice image from spring training in '52 that shows him
scoring a run with teammates, including the great Monte Irvin,
waiting to congratulate him at the plate. Latest images are 1980
laser wire photos showing Thomson and Branca reminiscing about the
fateful homerun during a dinner honoring Branca and other HOF
inductees. Photos measure 7x 9 to 8x10" . Condition of the lot
ranges from VG (due mostly to editing marks) to MT, with most on the
better end.
