Lot 472: 1940s Jewish Refugee Wire Photos (19)
ITEM DESCRIPTION

The faces of the detainees at the Jewish detention camps on Cyprus
tell the story. Their accommodations are sparse, but they are safe
and hopeful about their future prospects in the Holy Land. This is a
remarkable collection of (19) wire photos documenting the life of
European Jews immediately after WWII, in limbo as they wait to
rebuild their lives in Palestine. These are poetic images of daily
life: girls hanging laundry; children washing up for the day and at
school; new babies in their mothers' arms; swimming in the
Mediterranean. Sized from 7 x 9" to 8x12", the wire photos have
either front captions or caption sheets. All are at least VG with
most EX/NM.
