Lot 470: 1950s Israel - Egypt War Wire Photos (80+)
ITEM DESCRIPTION
|
||||||||||||
In 1955, as retribution for Egyptian sponsored fedayeen raids into
Israel, the Israeli army launched reprisal raids into Arab villages
in the West Bank and Gaza. Sound familiar? As tensions came to a
head, the resulting full military attacks in by Israel in 1956 put
them on the map as a military force to be reckoned with. It also
marked the beginning of a UN presence in the region as an emergency
force was brought in to maintain security in the Gaza Strip. A
massive lot of (80+) wire photos well documents this dawn of modern-
era middle east conflict, when Israel emerged as a power player.
Images include: Female Israeli soldiers with weapons; British frogmen
fishing weapons out of a Suez Canal backwater; the arrival of
international and UN peace-keeping forces. Sized from 8x10" to 7.5 x
14", the lot is fairly evenly distributed through a condition range
from VG (mostly due to editing marks) to MT.
