Notre Dame pays tribute to its legendary football coach, Knute Rockne, in these (5) news service photos. (2) images pertain to Rockne's April 1931 funeral at the Sacred Heart Church on the Notre Dame campus including a view of the thousands outside the church who came to pay tribute to the legend (a 1" chip is missing from the top edge of this photo). The remaining images show plans for the Rockne memorial building and the final product, completed in June of 1939. The images have original caption sheets affixed to versos and are EX+ to MT unless described otherwise. Sizes range from 6.5 x 8.5" to 7 x 11".
