This is a promotional poster of Max Schmeling which was used to promote his first fight with Joe Louis on June 19, 1936 in New York at Yankee Stadium. The fight was originally scheduled for June 18th, as advertised on the poster, but rain forced a delay of one day. This is a stone lithograph picturing Max Schmeling in full fight pose. It was produced by H.C. Miner Company of New York. In the lower left area there is the advertisement for the fight with Joe Louis which was added to the poster. Under this is written: “HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION OF THE WORLD FIRST EUROPEAN TO HOLD TITLE UNDER DIRECTION OF JOE JACOBS.” This stone litho with advertisement for the fight added to it has been professionally linen backed. Bold color, minor restoration evident. 27” x 40.” Exceptionally rare.
