Lot 7: Incredible 1910 Jack Johnson vs. James Jeffries Presentational Photograph Album

On July 4, 1910, World Heavyweight Champion Jack Johnson defeated challenger Jim Jeffries in Reno, Nevada in one of the most celebrated fights in boxing history. Hugh McIntosh, the promoter of Johnson’s fight with Tommy Burns in Australia when Johnson won the coveted title, commemorated the Johnson-Jeffries fight in an incredible photograph album which we offer here. The album is entitled on the cover in gold inlay, Souvenir of the JEFFRIES-JOHNSON FIGHT. The album consists of a round by round photographic history of the fight consisting of rare first-generation photographs and real photo postcards. The photography was done by noted photographer, Percy Dana. There are approx. 88 photographs and real photo postcards depicting the ring action, the pre-fight scene at the signing for their bout, crowd scenes and some rare photos from Jeffries training camp. Each page has the photographs described on the reverse allowing the opportunity to relive this important event. Placed in an oversized (14 1/2” x 19 1/2”) album in excellent condition with all pages intact and a tight binding. One of the finest photo albums in existence covering this important sporting and social event.
